VERSE 1
as if the poverty wasnt enough
and lack of ownin’ property wasnt enough
its been compounded since covid got us grounded
now our everyday troubles are doublin’ up
-Our people got more cases and deaths per capita
Why you ask? Well dr.Oop can answer ya
First we live in more densely packed areas
with multiple generations, plus if you a carrier
-the prevalence of respiratory and pulmonary disease
from homes with code violations increase the ease
of death, and what our families do to get by
is move in together cause the rents to high,
-so no distancing at home that hurts us
and we make up most of the essential workers
when we get sick we not attended to properly-
there’s a documented bias in our healthcare yeah plus poverty

CHORUS:
poverty
black and brown its like the death toll lottery
Its like high way robbery
somehow it follows me
poverty
black and brown its like the death toll lottery
Its like high way robbery
somehow it follows me

VERSE 2 (Akil):

CHORUS:
poverty
black and brown its like the death toll lottery
Its like high way robbery
somehow it follows me
poverty
black and brown its like the death toll lottery
Its like high way robbery
somehow it follows me

VERSE 3
I cant blame it on poverty alone
A lot of us just not stayin’ home
we dont believe its real, or get how it works
cause we throwin house partys, and still goin to church
-screamin ‘faith over fear’ yeah but educate
the preachers just concerned with the collection plate
he’s hustler not a scientist, I know y’all revere him,
but facts don’t care about your feelings
- plus if he care he’ll share that the man
aint just upstair or in church he’s everywhere
how bout we set the vision for a new religion
kind heart open mind strong immune system
-eat right, spread love, live an active life style
,not one day or some day but right now
we can’t blame our lives on politics or policy
the past or the president, our residence or poverty
